Hong Kong: Chapter 1 "Quasi-Local-Quasi-Tourist"

"Ahhhh!!!  Jo-Sun!  Jo-Sun!  Jo-Sun!! Jo-Sun!!!"  Apparently it is not enough to say "good morning" or "thank you" just once.  These expressions often require multiple repetitions preceded by a long and drawn-out exclamation "ahhhhhhh..."  Perhaps it expresses extra sincerity or gratitude.   For the record, I just bid you "good morning" four times with extra sincerity.  You're welcome.

Hong Kong is every bit as hustling, bustling, wealthy, and neurotic  as I remember. It is the epitome of city-living.  If you love city life, make damn sure it is on your bucket list.  And get there.  Otherwise, just stay where you are to avoid the constant surge of blood pressure.

While in Hong Kong, I am a tourist doing local stuff, and a local doing tourist stuff. Buying fresh meat that's hung on hooks in the open market, or seeing freshly gutted fish with blood still on the flesh doesn't bother me the slightest bit.  But seriously, what locals would take pictures of a geoduck at a seafood stall?

Please enjoy the photo montage of Hong Kong:  Chapter 1.

Almost there!

A long escalator called the
Travelator connects Mid-Levels
to Central district.
Extremely convenient.

Balmy 80 degrees.  Perfect for a softs serve ice-cream.
Mom enjoying a decaf Americano at the 'BUX.

Crossing the Hong Kong
Harbor on the Star Ferry

I do not want to experience
a ferry rolling heavily...

The "Big Ben" of TsimShaTsui
Hong Kong Cultural Center is the home
for numerous concerts, ballets, operas,
theatre productions, and exhibits

A beautiful, sunny day to cross the harbor,
although the smog is always there

One of my favorites:  Siu Long Bao
(Soup dumplings - there is soup inside the wrappers!)

Never tried a dragon fruit.
It's about US $1.50 each

Caught up with an old friend Iris who I haven't seen for 17 years -
since she moved to HKG from the Bay Area.

The famous IFC,
International Finance Center

A mecca for Apple fans in the IFC

In time, there will be no more harbor
between Hong Kong and Kowloon!
No shortages of fancy stores in the IFC.
In fact, there is nothing but fancy name brands
in the IFC.

Quite possibly the cleanest mall
I have ever seen
Where's the Devil
who wears Prada?

Tanks with huge prawns, clams of all kinds, crab, lobsters,
and other shellfish
Ugly looking son of a gun geoduck
Does this bother you?

Hairy Crab, I don't quite
care for them, but I did
try one...
